With the launch of Elixir d'Anvers Reserve, FX de Beukelaer reveals one of its best-kept secrets. For years and in complete secrecy, this special edition of Elixir d'Anvers matured in strictly selected, small oak barrels that ensure a fine evolution of taste. Thanks to the smaller barrels, there is faster aging and more contact with the barrel, which means flavors are transferred faster.
The plants & herbs are mixed with alcohol in a copper alembic where they soak for a long time and release their flavors. During the slow distillation, the still is heated with steam, causing the volatile properties of the ingredients to rise together with the alcohol vapors & condense into an alcohol distillate or 'Esprit'.
This distillate of pure alcohol contains all the aromatic properties of the ingredients. Maturation in old oak barrels: The 'Esprit' is mixed with pure alcohol, soft water, sugar and an infusion of saffron. For this special edition, Elixir d'Anvers is given the opportunity to mature for several years in old oak barrels. This provides an extra soft and deep character with a refined wood touch.
